According to Red Wings GM Ken Holland, Steve Yzerman is ready to be a GM of an NHL team.

“He’s probably getting to the point where he’s just about ready to run his own team,” Holland said. “He wanted to come in, spend some time and see how we do it.” …

There also have been some inquiries about assistant general manager Jim Nill. Holland says he has three years left on his contract.

“At some point in time, Jimmy wants to be a general manager,” Holland said. “I don’t think the timing has been right. I think he likes his role here, his responsibility.”
