To welcome visitors to my new website, Behind the Jersey: No. 19, I am holding a contest open to all visitors. Two visitors will receive one of two books, either the Detroit Free Press book entitled “The Captain” or Nineteen: A Salute to Steve Yzerman. The Nineteen book is numbered 20,395 out of 30,000.

How to enter? Send me an email with your name and contact information.

Deadline: August 6, 2007

I will accept one entry per person and the two winners will be selected randomly.

About the books…

The Captain

Steve Yzerman played 22 seasons and won three Stanley Cups. Even more impressive, he did it all for one team — the Red Wings. This 128-page book covers Yzerman’s entire career, with stories by Mitch Albom and the Free Press sports staff, plus hundreds of color photos.

Nineteen: A Salute to Steve Yzerman

“Nineteen: A Salute to Steve Yzerman” is a 192-page tribute — through pictures and words — to the former Captain and what he has meant to a storied franchise, teammates, a legion of loyal fans, and a sports-crazed city.

Others have published books honoring Yzerman’s career, but none equals the quality of this fine-crafted tribute to the Captain and his lasting legacy. Each book is individually numbered, making a must-have collectible for every Red Wings’ fan.

“Nineteen: A Salute to Steve Yzerman” includes a foreword written by Red Wings Senior Vice President Jim Devellano, and is filled with comprehensive statistics and fun facts of Yzerman’s illustrious career. The book, produced and published by Olympia Entertainment retails for $20.00 U.S.; $24.00 Canadian. It is on sale now at Joe Louis Arena, Hockeytown Cafe, Hockeytown Authentics in Troy and by calling 1-800-WINGS-25. It’s also available at your favorite book stores.

Great site Christy! I am a long time Wings fan and grew up in Michigan. I am currently in Cooperstown, NY and am trying to get back home. I miss watching the Wings every week. All we get out here are Buffalo and the Rags. Would love to win either of those books as I am a huge Stevie Y fan. Keep up the great work! Chris

Hi Christy! I love your site! Thanks a million! I’m the number one Detroit Red Wings fan in Canada (born and raised in Fats Delvecchio’s hometown of Fort William, Ont., now Thunder Bay). I miss my favorite player, Stevie Y., the classiest player ever! I have lived live in Toronto, Ont. for several years but I shall ALWAYS be a Red Wing Fan!
